IDOCInTheBox
v6.1
How IDOCinTheBOX Creations LLC handles your data — in the Advanced Tape Restorer application and on this website.
The short version. Your video and audio are processed entirely on your own computer. We do not upload your footage, we do not have a server that receives it, and we run no analytics or tracking in the application or on this website. The application makes network requests only for the specific purposes listed in section 4 — and most of those happen only if you use the optional feature that needs them.
This policy is issued by IDOCinTheBOX Creations LLC (trading as IDOCinTheBOX Creations), a limited liability company formed in North Carolina, United States. We are the data controller for the purposes of this policy.

This policy covers the Advanced Tape Restorer desktop application and the website at idocinthebox.com.
Advanced Tape Restorer is desktop software. Capture, restoration, AI inference, encoding and quality measurement all run locally on your computer using local processes (VapourSynth, FFmpeg and local AI model files). There is no cloud processing tier and no upload step.
We never receive your video files, audio files, capture recordings, project files, reference photographs or transcripts. We have no facility to do so.
This website is a static site hosted by Netlify and served through Cloudflare. It sets no tracking cookies, embeds no analytics scripts and runs no advertising or fingerprinting code.
As with any website, our hosting and CDN providers automatically record standard server logs for security and reliability — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referrer and user-agent string. These logs are generated and retained by those providers under their own policies; we do not use them to build user profiles.
The purchase button links out to Gumroad. Once you follow it you are on Gumroad's site and subject to Gumroad's privacy policy.
Every network request the application can make is listed below. Requests marked optional occur only if you use the feature described.
| When | Goes to | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| License activation and validation | Gumroad (api.gumroad.com) | Your license key and our product identifier, plus a flag that increments the activation counter. No hardware identifier, file data or personal information is included in this request. |
| AI model download (first use of an engine) | The model host published in our model registry — typically GitHub or Hugging Face | A standard file download request. No account data is attached. |
| Plugin marketplace browsing (optional) | GitHub | A request for the public plugin index file, and the plugin file if you install one. |
| Music library search (optional) | Jamendo, or ElevenLabs if you use AI generation | Your search terms or generation prompt, and the API key you supplied for that service. |
| Cloud photo import (optional) | The provider you choose (iCloud, Google Photos, Amazon Photos) | Authentication handled by that provider, and the photos you select. Imported images are stored locally in your face reference library. |
| Email notifications (optional) | The SMTP server you configure | A job-completion or error message sent to the address you specify, using your own mail credentials. This traffic goes directly from your machine to your mail provider — it does not pass through us. |
| Visual QA with a remote model (optional) | The endpoint you configure | Only if you deliberately point Visual QA at a remote vision-model endpoint. The default backends run locally. If you configure a remote endpoint, sampled frames are sent to it and you should review that provider's terms. |
We operate no telemetry. The application does not report usage statistics, crash data, feature analytics or license checks to any server controlled by us.
The application computes a hardware identifier locally — a hash derived from your machine's network adapter identifier and CPU description — which supports offline license validation. This value stays on your computer and is not transmitted.
The application writes the following to your machine. It is yours, it stays local, and you can delete it at any time.
These live under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Advanced_Tape_Restorer\. Credentials you enter
are stored so the features work; treat that directory as sensitive.
Purchases are processed by Gumroad, which acts as merchant of record. Gumroad collects your email address and payment details and processes them under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your payment card details.
We receive from Gumroad the order information needed to issue and support your license — principally your email address, order ID and license key. We use that solely to deliver your license, provide support, and honor refunds or revocations. We do not sell it, rent it, or use it for marketing without your consent.
If you email support, we hold that correspondence — your address, message, and anything you attach — for as long as needed to resolve the issue and keep a reasonable support record. Please do not send us footage unless we specifically ask for a sample to reproduce a bug, and only send material you are comfortable sharing.
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract for license issuance, validation and support; and our legitimate interests in securing the service and preventing license fraud for server logs and activation counts.
We keep license and order records for as long as the license is valid plus the period required for tax and accounting purposes. Support correspondence is kept for up to two years. Hosting and CDN logs are retained by those providers on their own schedules.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
To exercise any right, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. Because much of your data never reaches us, requests about purchase and payment records may need to be directed to Gumroad as well; we will tell you if that is the case.
If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have handled your data improperly, you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
We are based in the United States, and our hosting, payment and model-distribution providers operate internationally. If you use the software from outside the United States, the limited data described above may be processed in the United States.
Advanced Tape Restorer is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
The local-first architecture is the main safeguard here: the most sensitive material you handle — your footage — never leaves your device. For the limited data we do hold, we use reputable providers, HTTPS in transit, and access limited to what support requires. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this policy as the product changes. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be noted on this page, and where the change is significant we will mention it in the release notes.
